Abstract : Power system planning is difficult, costly and involves many future uncertainties. This paper describes how ~hese aspects are investigated and analyzed based on two major considerations: reliability and cost. This paper also exhibits the benefits that may accure from isolated systems interconnection as well as the importance of some electric system characteristics that should be taken into consideration in the planning process.
