Abstract : This paper aimed to identify the factors allecting the commercial banks profitability in Jordan.?To achieve the objectives of the study the data has been collected from those commercial banks listed on the Amman Financial Market (AFM) during 1991-2000.? The data has been analyzed and the findings revealed a number of important points as follows: • There was a positive significant relationship between the commercial Banks profitability and the following factors:?Owner’s equity,?debt ratio,?cash surplus,? liquidity as weel as the advertisement expenses.. • There was no significant relationship between?the commercial banks profitability and the total assets associated with the age of the bank. • There was a negative significant relationship between the commercial banks profitability and the total assets. Based on the results of the study some important recommendations have been suggested which might lead to enhance and develop the role of commercial banks in the process of developing the Jordanian economy.
