Towards Restructuring the Islamic Banking System
نحو إعادة هيكلة النظام المصرفي الإسلامي

Subject : Articles
Document Language : Arabic
Abstract : The paper pleases for restructuring Islamic banking by imposing 100% reserve ratio against demand deposits, while freeing investment deposits of any statutory reserve ratio. According to the new scheme there would be (a) demand deposits' banks which provide no credit but do provide all other banking services, and (b) investment banks in the form of holding companies which do engage in real investment activities only through subsidiary companies; (c) banks which directly engage in trade and investment. These reforms would guard against runs on banks and the risk of sub sequent financial collapse; and ensure equity both among different investment depositors and between them and the bank owners. They would also prevent excessive credit creation to which the present system is prone.
